Bolton’s Muamba in Critical Condition after Collapse

Fabrice Muamba, the Bolton Wanderers footballer who collapsed on Saturday evening in his team's FA Cup quarterfinal with Tottenham, is in critical condition, the club’s press service said.

Muamba, wearing an oxygen mask, was stretchered off the field by paramedics after losing consciousness in the end of the first half. The Telegraph said paramedics used CPR and defibrillation to revive him. The game was abandoned shortly after.

Bolton said in a statement that Muamba was “in a critically ill condition.”

The 23-year-old Kinshasa-born midfielder is now in intensive care.
