Anzhi Makhachkala claimed on Thursday to be close to signing Russia under-21 winger Oleg Shatov, who had reportedly been in talks with CSKA.
Shatov, 21 caught the eye of Premier League scouts at second-tier FC Ural, where he has scored seven goals in 30 appearances so far this season.
“A lot of questions about Shatov. The guy is talented, the coach likes him. The negotiations are close to completion, but it’s still too early to say he’s at our club,” Anzhi said on their official Twitter page.
Shatov recently spent two weeks training with the CSKA squad in Spain.
“They were the best two weeks of my life so far,” he told Sport-Express Monday, adding that he hoped to play for CSKA against Real Madrid in the Champions League February 21.
Shatov started his career at Ural in 2007 and has since made 124 appearances for the Yekaterinburg-based club. He has appeared 11 times for the Russia under-21 squad, scoring four goals.
