The CIS Economic Court recommended on Friday that the Russian and Belarusian governments negotiate the suspension of export duties on Russian oil products supplied to Belarus, a court official said on Friday.

"The Economic Court recommends the Russian and Belarusian governments negotiate a temporary suspension of export duties on Russian oil products supplied to Belarus in line with the conciliation procedure of the Belarusian law suit," the court said in a statement.

This spring the Belarusian government filed a law suit at the CIS Economic Court, asking it to consider the legitimacy of export duties on oil products charged by Russia.

Belarus cited a free trade intergovernmental agreement dated 1992, and a free trade regime protocol between Russia and Belarus dated 1995, under which the parties were obliged not to charge export fees in their trade.

Moscow says the Belarusian demands have no legal basis, adding that Russia has the right to charge oil export fees within the Customs Union.
