The United States defeated Switzerland 2-0 and became the first semifinalist of the ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Olympic Games in Canada's Vancouver.
The score in the tight game was opened only in the third period by U.S. Zach Parise on the third minute. With 12 seconds of the match time remaining Parise scored once again putting an empty netter to leave the final score at 2-0.
The United States will play in the semifinal the winner of the match between Finland and the Czech Republic, who are meeting on Wednesday 7:00 p.m. local time (6:00 a.m. GMT, Thursday).
