Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin has told a Russian radio station that he wants to finish his playing days with his hometown side Zenit St. Petersburg.

MOSCOW, June 19 (RIA Novosti) - Arsenal forward Andrei Arshavin has told a Russian radio station that he wants to finish his playing days with his hometown side Zenit St. Petersburg.

"I played for Zenit for a long time, and now I want to play abroad and then return to St. Petersburg to finish my career here," the 28-year-old Russian international told Radio Zenit.

Arshavin played for Zenit from 2000 to 2009, winning the Russian Cup, the Russian Premier League and the UEFA Cup with the side.

The Russian national team captain signed for Arsenal in February after a protracted transfer deal. He made an immediate impact in England, scoring four goals against Liverpool in a 4-4 draw at Anfield in April.

"I would be pleased if another Russian player joined Arsenal," he said, adding that club coach Arsene Wegner "knows the Russian players, and has told me his opinion of this or another footballer."

"Arsene Wenger is an intelligent man who is devoted to football," he went on. "I've heard that you can ask him about anything, not only football matters."
