MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian women basketball team is set to meet Saturday Latvia in the semifinal match of the 2007 Eurobasket Women Championship in Italy.
The Russians, who won silver medals at the 2005 Eurobasket and 2006 World Championship cruised to their fifth consecutive semifinal after they defeated Friday the team from Lithuania 75-58.
"Our aim is to be first in this tournament and if we continue to play as we have done, we can achieve it," Russia's leading player Maria Stepanova said after the game in an interview posted on the 2007 Eurobasket official Web site.
In another semifinal match on Saturday the team from Belarus will play Spain, which earlier defeated teams from the Czech Republic 52-46 and Belgium 72-53 respectively.
