* The International Olympic Committee named Russian resort city of Sochi as one of the three candidates to host the 2014 Winter Olympics

* The administration of Siberia's Omsk Region said the construction of the most up-to-date and spacious sports complex in the world, Arena-Avangard, had started in the region and would be completed by September 1, 2007

* The Russian Football Union held the draw for the last 32 of the 2006-2007 Russian Soccer Cup. Starting from July 2 each team in the last 32 will play one home and one away game. The results of the draw are as follows (hosting teams listed first):
