A joint Russian-Belarusian center for servicing air defense equipment will be established in eastern Belarus in the near future, a senior executive with a Russian defense group said Thursday.

MOSCOW, June 15 (RIA Novosti) - A joint Russian-Belarusian center for servicing air defense equipment will be established in eastern Belarus in the near future, a senior executive with a Russian defense group said Thursday.

Viktor Vishchuk, the first deputy general director of the Defense Systems holding, said the center would provide services for Belarusian and Russian military, and for the third parties that operate Soviet- and Russian-made air defense systems.

"In particular, the Belarus-based center could repair and service the equipment of the Kaliningrad special defense district, which has a strong air defense contingent," the executive said.

The core enterprise of the new service center will be a military electronics repair plant in Borisov, about 50 miles from the Belarusian capital, Minsk.

Russia's main arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, and Defense Systems will also participate in the project, Vishchuk said.
