Women's singles:

- Svetlana Kuznetsova, seeded No.8, advanced to the fourth round, beating Na Li (China) 6-3, 7-6

- Maria Kirilenko, seeded No.20, trounced Mathilde Johansson (France) 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the third round

Women's doubles

- No.11 seeds Maria Kirilenko and Gisela Dulko (Argentina) advanced to the second round, beating U.S. duo Ashley Harkleroad and Bethanie Mattek 6-4, 6-2

- Anastasia Rodionova and Andreea Vanc (Romania) beat Jill Craybas (U.S.) and Jelena Kostanic (Croatia) 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round

Men's doubles:

- Mikhail Yuzhny and Janko Tipsarevic (Serbia and Montenegro) advanced to the second round, defeating seventh-seeded duo Martin Damm (Czech Republic) and Leander Paes (India) 6-1, 7-6

- Dmitry Tursunov and Tripp Phillips (U.S.) lost to No.12-seed Argentinean pair Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto 4-6, 4-6 in the first round

* At the 37th Chess Olympiad 2006 in Turin (through June 4):

- The Russian men's team, seeded No. 1, shares third place with the Czech Republic (20) with 26.5 points. Armenia (3) leads with 29 points, followed by China (12) with 27 points. Russia plays the U.S. (7) in Round 11 later on Friday

- The top-seeded Russian women's team is in second place with 22.5 points. Ukraine (2) leads with 23 points. China (6) is third with 20.5 points. Russia plays Georgia (3) in Round 11
