Spartak Moscow to sell captain after row with coach

MOSCOW, April 19 (RIA Novosti) - Nine-time Russian national soccer champion Spartak Moscow will sell its most titled player for almost $260,000 less than the sum he was purchased for two years ago.

Dmitry Alenichev, one of Russia's best players and the captain of Spartak, was purchased by the club from Portugal's Porto for 750,000 euros (about $915,500) and has been offered for the transfer at about $650,000.

Alenichev, 33, who won UEFA Cup in 2003 and Champions League in 2004 with Porto, was put up for the transfer by the club in the wake of comments he made about the team's head coach.

In an interview with a popular sports newspaper he said Alexander Starkov's words and actions were irresponsible and he was not qualified enough to bring the club to a European level.

A spokesman for the club said the transfer price was not high but so far there were no interested clubs in purchasing Alenichev.
