TBILISI, April 1 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskhelia) - The Georgian Energy Ministry said Saturday that natural gas prices for consumers in the republic's capital had been raised from $0.13 to $0.17 per cubic meter as of April 1.

The decision, approved by the Tbilisi city legislature, was caused by a new agreement between Georgia and Russia raising natural gas prices from $60 to $110 per 1,000 cu m.

The ministry said the difference between the old and new consumer prices had been covered by the state, which had spent $16 million on subsidies since January 1, 2006.
