Dutch court interrupts Yukos trial for expert opinion

HAGUE, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - A Dutch court has interrupted for several months the trial of the lawsuit brought against embattled Russian oil company Yukos by a consortium of major foreign banks, a court officer said Friday.

The court said that experts would have to study the "dossier" and present their findings by May 2006.

The banks demand Yukos should repay the loan it received from the consortium in September 2003. Yukos had paid more than 50% of the $1-billion loan, but is yet to pay $473 million, interest excluded.

The banks insist Yukos should sell its subsidiaries run by Yukos Finance to pay the debt.

Yukos Finance, however, founded another firm, Yukos B.V., in April 2005 and transferred the shares of the subsidiaries to it without notifying the banks, which consider the transaction illegal.
