VILNIUS, October 27 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Vodo) - American oil major ConocoPhillips wants to go in on a stake in Lithuania's Mazeikiu nafta with Russia's LUKoil, ConocoPhillips CEO James Mulva said after a meeting with Lithuanian Economy Minister Kestutis Dauksys in Vilnius Thursday.

Mulva said his company thought a LUKoil-ConocoPhillips partnership was a solid argument in favor of starting negotiations and that he had a solid plan to upgrade the enterprise.

The Mazeikiu nafta complex includes an oil refinery in Mazeikiai, Lithuania, with an annual design capacity up to 12 million metric tons, an oil terminal in Butinge with an 8-million-ton annual capacity and another enterprise. The Lithuanian government holds 40.66% of Mazeikiu nafta stock. Yukos International U.K. B.V. holds the operator rights and 53.7% of Mazeikiu nafta stock.

The Lithuanian government plans to sell up to 30% of its share package in the Lithuanian oil complex. However, the Lithuanian opposition is sharply against LUKoil buying into Mazeikiu nafta.
