MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova failed Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup, a premier Russian tennis tournament with a prize pool of $1.3 million.
Top-seeded Sharapova, whose performance during the tournament was rather uninspired, lost to her compatriot Dinara Safina in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 5-7.
In the semifinals, Safina will face France's Mary Pierce, who earlier defeated Yelena Likhovtseva of Russia.
