UEFA Cup holders CSKA Moscow win first round clash

MOSCOW, September 15 (RIA Novosti) - UEFA Cup holders CSKA Moscow beat Danish team Midtjylland 3:1 in Moscow Thursday, in the first leg of a UEFA Cup first round match.

Rolan Gusev scored the opener for CSKA in the 21 minute, but two minutes later Midtjylland equalized with a rebound of off the leg of a CSKA defender.

The home team's second and third goals came from Brazilian player Daniel Carvalho in the 76th and 79th minutes.

The teams played in an empty stadium after UEFA, European soccer's governing body, ordered the Russian club to play behind closed doors in response to CSKA fans throwing flares onto the pitch in a match against Italian team Parma.

The second leg against the Danish team will take place on September 29.
