MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the ultra-nationalist LDPR party, said he will offer asylum in Russia to U.S. boxer Mike Tyson as the two of them meet in a Moscow restaurant Tuesday.

Zhirinovsky, infamous for his radical statements and eccentric behavior, told a press conference ahead of the meeting that he will suggest Tyson move to Russia to escape from the "looming demise" of "the U.S.' entire West Coast."

He also said he will express his condolences to Tyson over the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina to U.S. southern regions.

Zhirinovsky, Vice Speaker in the State Duma, parliament's lower house, compared the passion of a boxing match to the excitement that members of parliament feel while in session.

"We are enemies, you see, like spiders in a jar. Opposite polarities - everything sparks up at the moment [of contact]," he said.

Zhirinovsky said he is not afraid Tyson may bite a piece of his ear off, something the controversial boxer had once done to an opponent in the boxing ring.
