Dmitry Mashkovtsev, the general director of Baltenergo, a Russian energy company, presented the details of the project during a meeting of its working group. The cable will start near the village of Kernovo (the Leningrad region) and supply up to 8.7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to the Mussalo peninsula near Kotka in Finland.
The recoupment period depending on various scenarios is estimated at about six to nine years. Revenues will be invested in the construction of replacement capacity facilities at the Leningrad nuclear power station.
The participants of the meeting discussed the prospects of the project, considering Finland's energy policy and the development of the energy industry in northwest Russia.
Russian and Finnish experts will prepare suggestions and comments for the next working group meeting scheduled for September.
