KIEV, August 9 (RIA Novosti, Taras Burnos) - The top management of Ukraine's most famous soccer club, Dynamo Kyiv, has fired head coach Leonid Buryak and his assistants, the club's press service announced Tuesday.

"The club's had a terrible start to the season. We were defeated in the Ukrainian Cup, and have played unconvincingly in the opening games of the Ukrainian Championship," a club statement said. The club's management said Buryak should have been able to produce the results expected of an international level team this season.

The club's management said that they intended to make major changes to the team.

"The first step is to attract an authoritative and highly professional specialist to work as head coach - this may be a foreigner," the statement said.

According to some Ukrainian media sources, one candidate is the German coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who is best known for managing Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

In the meantime, Anatoli Demyanenko is standing in as caretaker coach.

The decision to dismiss Buryak followed Dynamo's poor performance on all fronts this season, most importantly in the Champions League, where the team lost 2-3 on aggregate in the second qualifying round to Swiss minnows Thun.
