TBILISI, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Arutyunyan has been charged with terrorism in the assassination attempt on U.S. President George Bush and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, Arutyunyan's defense lawyer Guliko Dzhimsheladze told a news conference Tuesday.

According to Dzhimsheladze, Arutyunyan has partially pled guilty on the charge of the illegal possession of a weapon.

On July 23, a Tbilisi city court judge sentenced Arutyunyan, a 27-year-old resident of this city, to three months in custody pending trial.

Earlier, prosecutors charged Arutyunyan with illegal purchase, possession, manufacture and transport of ammunition and explosives, and with premeditated and aggravated murder.

Arutyunyan, who threw a grenade during George Bush's speech on Liberty Square here on May 10, put up armed resistance during his arrest and killed 37-year-old Captain Zurab Kvlividze, the head of the operative department of the directorate for the fight against international terrorism at the Georgian Interior Ministry.
