JAKARTA, July 14 (RIA Novosti, Mikhail Tsyganov) - The University of Indonesia is to collaborate with the biggest Russian universities, Usman Chatib Warsa, the rector of the leading Indonesian university told RIA Novosti Thursday.

Warsa recently visited Moscow and St. Petersburg. He said that he saw a lot of scope for a partnership between the University of Indonesia and the Universities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

During his visit Warsa signed memorandums on cooperation with Lomonosov Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University and the University of Asian and African Studies. He said that he was very pleased that his university was to work with the two largest Russian universities.

He said that the collaboration would center on linguistics studies. Indonesian specialists will study Russian in Russia and Russian specialists will study Indonesian in Indonesia. A Russian-Indonesian dictionary will be published in the near future.

Warsa added that the University of Indonesia would like to work with the Russian universities in other fields as well, including history, cultural studies and medicine.

He said that medicine was a particularly promising field for collaboration.

"Indonesia remembers who built and gave us a beautiful hospital in Jakarta, which is where I trained at university," said Warsa, who has a degree in medicine.

He called on the private sector to invest in the student programs.

"I was very impressed by the main building of the Moscow State University. It symbolizes the commitment of the Russian government to higher education," he said.
