SARANSK, July 11 (RIA Novosti, Kseniya Larina) - Four cases of bovine rabies were registered from July 8-11 in Mordovia, a Russian federal republic in the middle Volga region.

The republic's epizootic service said the diagnosis had been made in laboratory conditions at four Mordovian farms.

The service reported about ten animals had died from the virus, caused by wild fox attacks.

The stock and the almost 30 farmers who had contact with animals, are being vaccinated. Work to reveal possible disease carriers is under way.

On the whole, 31 cases of rabies, including five cases of bovine rabies, have been registered in Mordovia since the start of the year.

Earlier, foot-and-mouth disease was diagnosed in a village of the Amur region in the Far East near Chinese border, which experts believe originated in China. More than 20 animals were slaughtered.
