MOSCOW, June 7 (RIA Novosti) - Unesco, the United Nations agency overseeing culture and science, will include the national holiday of Tatarstan, Sabantui, on its list of mankind's non-material heritage, Russia's foreign minister said Thursday.

When opening a session of the council of the country's Federation members, Sergei Lavrov praised the proactive efforts made by Tatarstan, which is a national republic in Russia, on the council and also its achievements in foreign economic and international cooperation.

"Assisted by the Foreign Ministry, Tatarstan is proactively working with Tatar communities abroad, maintaining contacts with the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities," Lavrov said.

He also spoke about Tatarstan's cooperation with Unesco. In particular, the Kazan kremlin has been included on the organization's World Heritage List.

Lavrov said Tatarstan's experience should be widely applied.
