Russia seeks to join OECD

MOSCOW, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is looking to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said at a meeting with the organization's Secretary General Donald Johnston Monday.

"The committee on relations between Russia and the OECD held its sixth meeting yesterday," Fradkov said. "It went successfully, which shows we are both interested in rapprochement and Russia's prospective membership in the organization."

Fradkov said cooperation with the organization in recent years had created "the necessary conditions for raising Russia-OECD relations to a new level."

Johnston called Monday's meeting the most successful of the six meetings over which he has presided.

Johnston said the meeting being held here, rather that at the organization's headquarters in Paris, was conducive to its success.
