MOSCOW, June 4 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom Deputy CEO, Gazexport general director Alexander Medvedev and Iranian Deputy Petroleum Minister Hadi Nejad-Hosseinian discussed cooperation between the Russian natural gas giant and the ministry, as well as oil and gas companies.

The sides intend to jointly survey and develop Iranian oil and natural gas fields.

Medvedev and Hosseinian also considered development prospects of the Iranian gas transportation infrastructure, particularly, projects of underground storing and sale of Iran's natural gas, Gazprom said.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh achieved agreements on the implementation of these projects in January 2005.

Iran boasts world's second largest natural gas reserves (after the Russian Federation). Their total volume is estimated at 24 trillion cubic meters, or 16% of the world's natural gas reserves. About 50% of Iran's gas reserves are concentrated at shelf fields in the Persian Gulf.
