2nd leg of the Great Russian Marathon starts in Khabarovsk territory

KHABAROVSK, June 4 (RIA Novosti, Oleg Kulgin) - The 2nd leg of the Great Russian Marathon involving Russian and British athletes started in Vyazemsky (the Khabarovsk territory, Russia's Far East) on Saturday.

The leg covering some 700 kilometers will finish in Blagoveshchensk on June 11, master of sports Alexander Buslakov, the supervisor of the project, told RIA Novosti.

The super-marathon started on Saturday, May 28, in Vladivostok. This unprecedented race across Russia will end in St. Petersburg.

The marathon is divided into 15 weekly legs. The Russian and British teams are expected to cover each leg in a week. The number of official participants is 280.

There are many prominent athletes among Russian participants, for instance, winner of the European and world marathon cups, honored master of sports Yakov Tolstikov, two-time USSR champion and world champion Igor Zavyalov and European and USSR champion Anatoly Verlan.

The British team comprises students, military and experienced runners. Their coach is European champion Bruce Tulloh. The team's curator is two-time Olympic champion Lord Sebastian Coe.
