"I would like to hold a concluding conference on religious freedom and tolerance in Russia," Robles told journalists after the meetings with Patriarch Alexis II of Moscow and All Russia and Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, the chairman of the Council of Russian Muftis, in Moscow.
"I wanted to discuss such a seminar with religious regions. They met my proposal with understanding," Robles said.
According to him, representatives of five monotheist confessions of the Council of Europe and Turkey will attend the conference.
Mufti Gainutdin said, in turn: "This is highly important for us."
"I delivered a speech on tolerance and religious cooperation on the basis of common humanist principles in Brussels. European counterparts spoke about the adaptation of Moslems in Europe and I told them to follow our example," the mufti stressed. In his words, representatives of different religions live "in peace, brotherhood and cooperation" in Russia.
The Council of Europe's commissioner intended to "hold a tolerance seminar in Russia after his visit to Russian Islamic University in Kazan," Gainutdin said. Robles "highly assessed the level of clergymen's training in Russia," he added.
"Our European colleagues also should adapt to new conditions to prevent problems in Europe," he stressed.
Chechen Mufti Akhmed Shamayev attended Gainutdin's meeting with Robles.
