MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow-based company MediaNetworks is launching the first wireless broadband radio-access pre-WiMAX network in Nizhny Novgorod, Vedomosti, a daily, reports.

The pre-WiMAX commercial start is scheduled for May. The network will cover the entire city and its surroundings. The company has bought and installed Raitek-inform Wide IP DSS equipment, which has the relevant Russian standard certificates. The service will be in demand in medium and large-scale firms, elite residential complexes, and out-of-town housing.

J'son & Partners analyst Boris Ovchinnikov says the WiMAX equipment is still expensive. Therefore, for the time being, MediaNetworks can hardly offer any advantages over other Internet providers.

Concurrently, WiMAX wireless communications developer Intel is considering cooperating with operators and IT companies in building the WiMAX network in Nizhny Novgorod, said Yevgeny Zakablukovsky, Intel director for public and regional authorities relations in Russia. The network will cover the central part of the city, providing data-transmission speeds of up to 10 megabits per second.
