YUKOS SUES TAX MINISTRY ON FISCAL CLAIMS. ARBITRATION COURT TO SIT, NOVEMBER 2

MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - The Yukos petroleum mammoth is suing the federal Tax Ministry to override its claims for 2001, which amount to 79.4 billion roubles, roughly US$2.7 billion. The Moscow Arbitration Court will consider the case in a session of November 2, the court press service announced today.

In a resolution of September 2, the ministry determined to claim another 119.9 billion roubles on the Yukos for 2001-50.7 billion of this as tax arrears, 28.7 billion fine and 40.6, penalty.

The ministry issued a special order the same day to demand payments. 79.4 billion roubles out of the total was to be removed from Yukos accounts on unconditional acceptance as fiscal arrears and fines.

The ministry addressed the Arbitration Court to exact the sum. The court exacted the penalty, October 11, though reducing it by 1.5 billion roubles.

The Yukos is presently challenging fiscal arrears and fines.
