CHISINAU, August 12 (RIA Novosti's Vladimir Novosadyuk) - Moldova is making steps to alleviate the tension in relations with Transdniestria (self-proclaimed republic on Moldovan territory).

In particular, the Moldovan Defense Ministry leadership made a decision on Thursday to cancel the coming scheduled artillery exercises with combat firings. This is said in an official statement RIA Novosti received from the press service of the Defense Ministry.

"The exercises were envisaged by the plan of combat training in November 2003. But taking into account publications in different mass media about some military preparations threatening the Transdniestrian population, it was decided to cancel the exercises of the Moldovan National Army units. What Moldovan military are accused of is open misinformation. Today Moldovan army units serve in a normal mode," stresses the document.

Another step was simplification of some formalities in the economic activity. All competent state bodies of Moldova were given an instruction to maximally simplify the procedure of registration of economic agents from the Transdniestrian region, the government's press service quoted Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev as saying on Thursday.

In the premier's words, economic agents of Transdniestria may without any obstacles get registered in the State Register of Moldovan Enterprises and Organizations.

Thus the Moldovan government made it possible for Transdniestrian enterprises to participate in the economic activity of Moldova in one legal field with other economic agents in the republic.

The Moldovan Prime Minister once again confirmed that despite the cancellation of privileges for economic agents from Transdniestria, there is no talk about any economic blockade of Tiraspol on the part of Chisinau.

"Through cancellation of earlier existing privileges for economic agents from Transdniestria, we created equal conditions for economic agents all over the republic," Mr. Tarlev said.

The Moldovan cabinet suspended from August 1 the validity of all normative acts of the government, which granted privileges to Transdniestrian economic agents. From August 1, the Customs Department also suspended the consideration of customs declarations of all economic agents of the Transdniestrian Moldovan republic, which do not have any budget relations with Moldova. The republic's commerce and industry chamber suspended the issuance of goods certificates to them from the same day.

These measures were taken by the Moldovan authorities after the Transdniestrian administration closed a number of schools in the region with the Moldovan language taught on the basis of the Latin alphabet until they were certified.
