DUSHANBE, April 28 (RIA Novosti) -Tajikistan believes the Euro-Asian Economic Commonwealth is instrumental in helping it resolve its major economic problems, Grigory Rapota, Secretary-General of the EuroAsEC, told RIA in an exclusive interview after his meeting with Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov. The two men met ahead of a session of the EuroAsEC Integration Committee today.

"We had a frank exchange of opinions on problems facing Tajikistan" and considered possible solutions to them, Rapota said. The sides reportedly discussed Tajikistan's involvement in EuroAsEC projects as well as its cooperation with Russia. "The emphasis was made on the necessity of cooperating in the electricity sector and on migration issues," the EuroAsEC Secretary-General specified.

According to Rapota, the Tajik government is especially concerned with problems of migration, transportation, and electrical energy supplies. He said that Akilov had briefed him on positive achievements in these areas.

Just one of the achievements is that more trains now shuttle between Tajikistan and Russia than before. "Tajikistan is isolated," and Tajik nationals have to cross several countries before they get to Russia; this is why the travel rules for Tajikistan should be relaxed, Rapota said.
