The Paschal Full Moon or the Full Worm Moon, is expected to appear bigger and brighter than normal and will mark the first full moon of the spring season.

Check out Sputnik's live feed of this year's first supermoon as it rises in the sky over Tehran, Iran on Sunday, 28 March.

The supermoon is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the full moon or new moon coincides with perigee - the moment of the closest approach of the moon and the Earth. This is due to the elliptical orbit in which the moon revolves around our planet. Thanks to this phenomenon, a larger-sized lunar disk can be spotted from Earth than is usually seen.
