MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russia's counterterrorism agreement with China does not preclude cooperation in the area outside the two states, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said Thursday.

"The agreement is bilateral and forms the legal basis of cooperation, including among the relevant structures, in countering threats to Russia and China. Geographically, the agreement does not contain any restrictions, we are fighting against terrorism, separatism and extremism as a manifestation of a hostile ideology," Ryabkov told reporters.

The diplomat noted that the terrorist threats to Russia and China stem for the most part from outside these countries, "so the agreement allows us to work in a wider geographical coverage."

He added that the agreement does not envision bilateral cooperation on special weapon systems.
