MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow may introduce temporary restrictions on Egyptian crops imports amid high phytosanitary risks, Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Tuesday.
"In order to prevent the entry and spread of plants subjected to quarantine on the Russian territory… Rosselkhoznadzor reserves the right to impose provisional restrictions on import of plants of high phytosanitary risks from Egypt to Russia," the watchdog said in a statement.
The suspension announced ahead of citrus harvesting season was prompted by regular violations of international and Russian phytosanitary requirements detected in Egyptian crops imports.
