Russia and Iran agreed to continue developing cooperation in the banking sector.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow and Tehran agreed to continue developing cooperation in the banking sector, Russian Energy Minister and сo-сhair of the Iran-Russia intergovernmental commission Alexander Novak said Friday.

"We agreed that it was necessary to continue work in the area of developing relations in the banking sphere. This is the main issue on the agenda today, as the development of the potential for interbank lending, opening accounts, mutual crediting, provides an additional opportunity and an impetus to our companies to ensure the expansion of cooperation," Novak said after meeting Iranian Communication Minister Mahmoud Vaezi, who co-chairs the commission.

The meeting, set to take place on the sidelines of the Russian-Azerbaijani-Iranian summit, is expected to focus on the situation in Syria, Iraq and the surge of terrorist activity in Europe, among other topics.
