IOC Postpones Decision on Russian Team Ban at Rio Olympics Until Weekend

The International Olympic Committee has postponed a decision on the participation of the Russian national team in the 2016 Rio Olympics until the end of the week, Spain's Marca newspaper reported on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, the World Anti-Doping Agency recommended to ban the Russian national team from the Rio Olympics over alleged massive doping violations by Russian athletes, with possible involvement of Russian state officials. 

McLaren's report has sparked a wave of criticism from the Russian side. All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) head Dmitry Shlyakhtin dismissed the findings of the report, expressing hope that it would not impact the CAS decision.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would carry out an investigation of the allegations, with Russian officials implicated as direct perpetrators to be suspended.
