India expects the Russian president to visit BRICS summit in GOA this October.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — New Delhi expects Russian President Vladimir Putin to arrive in India to take part in BRICS summit in October, Indian Ambassador to Moscow Pankaj Saran said Tuesday.

"India expects President Putin to attend the BRICS summit in Goa in October this year. Our nation is looking forward to this summit," Saran said at the opening of the exhibition "Russia-India: from Afanasy Nikitin to Present Day" in the Russian State Duma, the parliament's lower house.

The ambassador noted that Russia and India were united by cooperation in the military sphere and that the exhibition was held with the assistance of the State Duma’s Defense Committee.

"I would also like to mention particularly active cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. We have a Russian-Indian inter-parliamentary commission, which has been engaged in active work," Saran added.

The ambassador reminded that last year, State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin visited India, adding that that year, New Delhi hoped to send an Indian parliament speaker to Russia.

BRICS is an association of five developing economies — Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa — which comprises over one third of the world’s population. The five nations have a combined nominal GDP equivalent to approximately 20 percent of gross world product.
