"We already discussed this morning increased cooperation between the European Union and China in the Middle East, which is essential for the security and stability of the world, not only of the region…We discussed the scope of our cooperation on Syria, Iraq, Libya and Middle East peace process," Mogherini said at a joint press conference with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
She said that the Iranian nuclear deal is a positive example of the EU-Chinese cooperation on the Middle East issues.
The European Union and China also discussed the situation in Ukraine, relations with Russia and joint counterterrorism efforts.
"Our issues on our agenda are our relations with Russia, the situation in Ukraine, our cooperation in Africa and counterterrorism. We welcome in the European Union Chinese interest in having more cooperation on counterterrorism at international level. And the European Union is open to intensify cooperation with China through our existing political and security dialogues," Mogherini said.
The EU foreign policy chief also said the parties discussed such global issues as migration, regional security in Asia, as well as bilateral trade in the spheres of trade, investment and connectivity.
