According to the Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Russia is interested in strengthening international security mechanisms.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia, a transcontinental country with territory in both Europe and Asia, is highly interested in bolstering international security mechanisms, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Sunday.

“Russia as a European and Asian country has a significant stake in strengthening mechanisms of global security. I wish to emphasize the importance of creating an equal and indivisible security environment that would not serve a privileged few but everyone. Thus we could evade further conflict escalation both in Europe and Asia-Pacific region,” Antonov said at the "IISS Shangri-La Dialogue" Asia Security Summit in Singapore.

He stressed that the today’s challenges, first of all the terrorist threat, require utmost international coordination and cooperation.

Speaking about the Asia-Pacific, the Russian official stressed that the region, that had asserted itself as the driving force of the world economic development, faces multiple challenges, including terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, territorial disputes, organized crime, piracy, arms smuggling, drug trafficking and cybercrime.
