MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A march to mark the death of a man shot last week by police during a drug raid has prompted mass protests against police brutality in a borough of the Canadian city of Montreal, local media reported.
The march began in Montreal North as a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday evening, but finally resulted in vandalizing cars, throwing of projectiles, arson and broken windows, according to CBC News Canada.
Jean-Pierre Bony, 46, died after being shot by police with a plastic bullet in Montreal North on March 31.
The protest took place on what would have been the 26th birthday of Fredy Villanueva, another victim of Montreal police brutality. Villanueva was 18 when he was shot dead by a Montreal officer in August 2008, after he was found playing an illegal game of dice.
