MOSCOW (Sputnik) – In recent months, violence in Afghanistan has escalated as violent extremists from the Taliban and Islamic State increase attacks in provinces of the country.
"The heads of several CIS member states, surely, expressed deep concern about further deterioration and destabilization of the situation in Afghanistan," Peskov said.
He added that the concern was shared by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The rising outflow of drugs, transiting of weapon-smuggling operations and numbers of trained extremist fighters on Afghan territory undermines regional security, specifically of Central Asian CIS members, according to Russian General Staff chief Gen. Valery Gerasimov.
Terror attacks on the Afghan territory have killed over 3,500 people and wounded some 7,000 since the start of the year, according to Gerasimov.
