The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on Thursday put its Secretary General Jerome Valcke on leave, FIFA announced in a statement.

MOSCOW, (Sputnik) — Earlier on Thursday, Valcke was accused of making profit from the sale of World Cup tickets above their value.

“FIFA today announced that its Secretary General Jerome Valcke has been put on leave and released from his duties effective immediately until further notice,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the organization requested FIFA Ethics Committee to investigate Valcke’s case.

Later, the Organizing Committee of the 2018 World Cup in Russia told R-Sport that Valcke would not attend the ceremony marking 1,000 days until the start of the tournament as it was expected before.

In May, several high-ranking FIFA officials and executives were charged for racketeering, money laundering and bribery. FIFA reported that Valcke, along with then-President Sepp Blatter, were not involved in the corruption schemes.
