MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - A small airplane carrying 10 passengers crashed in the Amazon jungle with little hope of survivors, Agence France Presses (AFP) reported on Sunday.

"The aircraft was located - fragmented and incinerated - 10 kilometers (six miles) from the urban center of the town of Puerto Santander… It is possible that no passengers will be found," the Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

"Specialized rescue personnel are currently in a search and rescue mission for the bodies of the occupants of the aircraft," the unit added.

The airplane registered as HK-4755 PA 34 Navajo left the Araracuara Airport in southern Colombia at 3:00 p.m. local time (20:00 GMT) on Saturday, AFP reported. Air traffic control lost contact as the aircraft flew over Florencia and eventually crashed near Puerto Santander.

Colombian authorities have not found the two crew members or eight passengers flying aboard the plane, and have assumed there are no survivors.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority is an organization responsible for ensuring the development of civil aviation, and the safety of commercial flights in the country.
