MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - The organizers and visitors of a photo exhibition in New York focusing on the events in Ukraine honored the memory of International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin.

“Recently we just learned that Andrei Stenin, the author of these most impressive photos, was killed,” Sara Flounders, one of the exhibition’s organizers, said. She suggested honoring Stenin’s memory.

Thursday’s exhibition saw the display of a number of Stenin’s photographs among the works of other Russian and Ukrainian journalists. All the photographs were taken in the east of Ukraine amid the military operation in the region.

The photos documented the funerals of those killed in the conflict, parting with children during evacuation and cities destroyed by shelling.

Greg Butterfield, an International Action Center activist, voiced his opinion about the ongoing confrontation in Ukraine. "War crimes are being committed daily by the Kiev government against its own citizens, with funding and political support from Washington," Butterfield said, adding, “Before we are dragged into a dangerous confrontation with Russia, poor and working people in the US need to understand what our taxes are really paying for in Ukraine.”

On Wednesday, Rossiya Segodnya Director General Dmitry Kiselev said that, according to information from the Russian Investigative Committee, Stenin, who went missing in Ukraine on August 5, died about a month ago near Donetsk when the car he was travelling in while on an editorial assignment was shot at and torched on a highway just outside the city.

Since mid-April, the Ukrainian government has been conducting a military operation in eastern Ukraine, fighting against independence supporters who refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the country’s new government that came to power following the February 22 coup.
