MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) – The Obama administration shares responsibility for the conflict in Ukraine and its grave consequences, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday.
“It is sad that the United States continues to spur Kiev to a violent suppression of growing discontent among the Russian-speaking population. The conclusion is as follows: the administration of Barack Obama shares responsibility for the internal conflict in Ukraine and its grave consequences,” the statement said.
In a previous statement Friday, the Foreign Ministry elaborated that the United States was one of the countries that backed an unconstitutional coup in Ukraine in February and then in fact spurred the newly imposed regime to a violent crackdown on the Russian-speaking population.
The United States in its turn is pushing ahead with its anti-Russian comments blaming the country for instigating tensions in Ukraine, even though Moscow repeatedly denied any involvement in the conflict.
On Thursday, US Department of State spokesperson Marie Harf accused Russia of cross-border artillery attacks on Ukraine and of plans to supply air defense systems to eastern Ukrainian independence supporters.
On Friday, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said that the Russian leadership was culpable in the crash of the Malaysia Airlines plane in Ukraine. According to the official, the plane was downed by a missile fired from the territory controlled by Ukraine’s independence supporters who, the US believes, receive weapons from Russia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier stated that the aim of this anti-Russian rhetoric is to cover up the true reasons of the events unfolding in Ukraine, for which the US government shares the blame.
