China Eyes ‘Red Tours’ in Russia’s Far East

Chinese authorities, interested in the history of Soviet Russia, have proposed organizing the so-called Red Tours in the Khabarovsk region, Russia’s Far East, the regional government said on its website Tuesday.

KHABAROVSK, May 27 (RIA Novosti) – Chinese authorities, interested in the history of Soviet Russia, have proposed organizing the so-called Red Tours in the Khabarovsk region, Russia’s Far East, the regional government said on its website Tuesday.

The proposal came during the meeting of the Khabarovsk region’s delegations with China’s tourism authorities and heads of tourism associations. The meetings were held as part of the international exhibition, World Travel Fair - WTF 2014, in China attended by over 900,000 visitors from 50 countries.

“During the talks, foreign experts expressed interest in creating and promoting the so-called Red Tours related to the Soviet period of the Russian history and the life of party leaders, as well as gastronomical tours, children’s camps and fishery, hunting and ethnographic routes,” the statement said.

China ranks second in the Russian rating of inbound tourism generators. Last year, 2.5 million Russians visited China and 1 million Chinese visited Russia, according to statistics.
