MOSCOW, April 2 (RIA Novosti), Daria Chernyshova - Daily life continues normally in Japan despite the possibility of an impending tsunami, a Tokyo-based artist told RIA Novosti.

"It's reported that a tsunami of 20 centimeters to 1 meter could reach Japan's Pacific coasts early tomorrow morning, but it's not perceived as anything serious, at least around me in Tokyo, and we're more concerned about the forecast for rain which could scatter the cherry or sakura flowers now in full bloom in Tokyo," Takahiro Nishida told RIA Novosti.

Japan's Meteorological Agency advised residents Wednesday against remaining in the vicinity of the country's Pacific coast, as it could issue a warning of a tsunami caused by a strong earthquake off Chile.

Meteorologists expect the first wave of the tsunami to reach Japan on the east coast of Hokkaido Island. Residents of the threatened area have been urged to take precautionary measures.

An 8.2-magnitude earthquake hit off coast of Chile on April 1, producing a tsunami of up to 2.1 meters that impacted some areas of South American.

Six people were confirmed dead following the incident.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet declared Pisagua, Arica and other parts of northern Chile hit by the offshore quake to be disaster zones.
