ROME, April 28 (RIA Novosti) – Two police officers were wounded after unidentified persons opened fire in front of the Italian prime minister’s office in Rome as the new government of Enrico Letta was being sworn in at the nearby president’s palace, RAI state television reported on Sunday.

Overall, six to eight gunshots were made. One of the police officers protecting the governmental palace was shot in the neck and was in a grave condition while the other was lightly wounded in the leg, a RAI reporter said.

One of the attackers was arrested at the scene of the shooting and it was not immediately clear whether the attack was linked to the inauguration of the new coalition government.
