BEIJING, November 19 (RIA Novosti) - Chinese police have arrested 73 people engaged in producing fake luxury brand handbags and selling them abroad, local media report on Monday.
Chinese and American law enforcement professionals cooperated in the operation, which was carried out in China's Guangdong, Fujian and Anhoi provinces.
In total, 37 black-market production centers were uncovered, and over 20,000 fake handbags were seized.
Most of the fake handbags were destined for markets in the United States and the Middle East. There was most demand for fake Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Coach items.
China's public security ministry estimates that the criminals had produced about one million fakes. Police also seized the group's bank cards and the equipment they used to produce the fake goods.
