Khamis, the youngest son of Libya’s late leader Muammar Gaddafi, was killed in an armed clash between the government troops and militants in the city of Bani Walid, Egyptian media reported on Sunday.

Reports said citing Omar Hmaidan, the spokesman for the Libyan General National Congress that Khamis was killed on Saturday night and his body was delivered to the city of Misrata.

Last year the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) repeatedly reported on the death of Khamis al-Gaddafi, 29, but every time the information was not confirmed.

Khamis headed Libya's 32nd Brigade, one of Gaddafi's most professional and loyal units.

Another of Gaddafi's sons, Saif, who is currently on a trial in Libya, was also falsely reported to have been killed in a NATO airstrike last May.

Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown in October 2011 by opposition forces with NATO’s assistance after a seven-month civil war. Gaddafi, who ruled the country for almost 42 years, was captured and killed by rebels near his home town of Sirte on October 20.
