Notorious U.S. mass murderer Charles Manson has been denied parole in his 12th and possible final bid for freedom, ABC news reported.

The 77-year-old did not appear before the parole board in California and is not eligible for parole for another 15 years.

He is serving a life sentence for the 1969 murders of seven people, including actress Sharon Tate.

"This panel can find nothing good as far as suitability factors go," California Board of Parole Hearings Commissioner John Peck said.

Peck cited comments made by Manson to a prison psychologist in autumn last year, in which he described himself as "special" and "a very dangerous man."

Manson has not appeared before the board since 1997.

His previous review was in 2007.

He "continues to pose an unreasonable danger to others and may still bring harm to anyone he would come in contact with," the board ruled.
